The new "State of Play" presentation was.. exciting?

I usually end up regretting my choice to stay up late to catch one of these live, but not this time. Yesterday's showcase was already primed to the deliver, as the announcement that gameplay for the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine would been shown had already been made. In development by the studio behind the Marvel's Spider-Man games, this new action adventure sees Logan navigate a cruel, X-Men-less world in which he works together with other rogue mutants to save mutant children. Watching the trailer, I was particularly fascinated by the fine-tuned gore; Wolverine fights like a feral animal at times, but there is no showoff-esque gratuity to what he does, as he's neither Deadpool nor a Mortal Kombat character. Judging by what they've shown, the developers are nailing his gameplay and I can not wait to experience it for myself in September.

It's not that the presentation peaked early, just that their first and their final announcements somewhat stole the show for me. That being said, the rest had several great reveals and further details for Phantom Blade 0, Onimusha, Marvel TOKON Fighting Souls, several horror games including another trailer for the next Silent Hill, more about Bungie's Marathon, the return of RAYMAN of all franchises and some cool-looking new IP's such as Kemuri, a yokai-hunting game with an amazing aesthetic that bleeds into gameplay in unique ways. I was enjoying myself thoroughly through all of it, until the final announcement blew me away even harder and established Frank the Cube as my new favorite video game character, and I'm only half-joking.

A new God of War game with Faye, Kratos' wife, being the player character had been rumored to be in development, but seeing a full 20 minutes of what appeared to be the start of the game still felt surreal to witness. The idea of an afterlife for dead gods opens up so many different cultures and religions to be adapted, references to previous games to be made an d some of the most epic battles the series has ever seen. The mongolian gods they already showed off look badass, Faye#s use of swordplay and magic seemed... seemless and extremely dynamic and I do believe in Frank the Cube supremacy. Definitely my favorite announcement of the night and one of my most anticipated games going forward.

Guess I'm staying up for Summer Games Fest...
